I am having a baby bed dilemma! I love taking advice from supermoms and I know you can help me out here. I really do not want to spend a ton of money on a crib, but I just read in Baby Bargains to absolutely NOT buy a used baby bed or car seat! I knew about the car seat but, had 0 clue about baby beds being harmful if it is used. I was planning on garage selling and consignement shopping for one. Then I read that the cheap cribs can be harmful and fall apart easy, I would like to use the same crib for all of my babies. Chad and I have also considered getting a raw wood crib and painting it ourselves, the upside to that is I would get the exact color I want. I want a off white bed. Any advice in the crib department would be nice. Would you also give me a good price to spend on a bed? While you are at it, would you give me your opinion on the baby bedding market? Chad's mom has offered to pay for the labor if I pick out the fabric, or should I just get cheap Target bedding.....is it worth it? Please give me your opinion, I do not want to fall into the "must have best" trap. I can so easily fall into that trap. Example......I MUST HAVE A PAIR OF DESIGNER MATERNITY JEANS....husband doesn't like this trap:) As I ramble on....I beg for advise.

I second that! I wouldn't buy used. I bought a very inexpensive one (maybe the most) at Target, and I love it. It doesn't matter once you get the bedding in. I'd go nicer on the bedding, but not rediculous. It can look really nice and be affordable. I'd rather spend money elsewhere! Hope that helps!
Okay I'm not experienced yet...but I am proof that you can have the best without spending a fortune! We decided to spend a little extra on a very good crib that would last us through all of our babies, but waited till it went on sale to buy it. Everything else in her room was either given to us, handmade, or Cheap! If you are going to buy used you can find out the kind of crib, look it up online, and make sure it meets all of the safety requirements. I think its great that you are focusing on not getting trapped into having the best of everything because that is easy to do. You won't remember the pricey clothes, toys, furniture, etc. down the road, u will just treasure those sweet simple moments with him/her instead.
I am just now reading this blog of yours about a crib...
We actually did get ours used. One of Kevin's friends had a baby and it wasn't that old of a crib (and they were good references). We repainted it and it has been through both of our boys great. As for bedding...I was a lot more picky about that. I found fabric I liked and had a lady make it for me. It has lasted through both boys too and I made it gender neutral should we decide to have another one (and it ends up being a girl). Everything else in the room was given to us...an old dresser from Kevin's bunk bed set growing up & and another dresser from my childhood furniture became the changing table (we repainted both to match and redid knobs on them). I also bought some old doorknobs off ebay to hang pictures with and got a neat clock from my parents. Everything in his room has some special meaning and I love that -- even better, that we didn't spend that much making it look exactly like I wanted!
Hope that helps...sorry for the super long post!
