Harry the Entomologist
Harry is in love with bugs, like most little boys! He came up to me the other day and said, "Look mommy, I got a lady bug." You guessed it folks, there was no lady bug in sight but, a beetle/water bug/roach looking bug! YUCK! He is not afraid to crush them in his fingers.
He is fascinated by this beetle that is stuck on his back!
Here in this laboratory you will see many different "scientific" containers used for capturing lightening bugs.
The bugs were originally in the wild of Poughkeepsie, AR. My Uncle Joe brought them to our house in big plastic bags(like around 100). He had paid a few kids to catch them for him. He is from CA and has a friend who has never seen a lightening bug. He wanted to show them to him before his friend died(he is on his death bed). Our mission was to find places to put the bugs so that they would not die on the flight and be well hidden to escape security! They were put in eye glass containers, pill boxes, and shoes! Mission was accomplished! They made it to LA alive!
