Your Name Means What?

This is one of my random posts of what has been on my mind or what God is teaching me!
We are studying the women in the lineage of Christ and I have had to really dig into the history! I feel like it is needless to say that when you are in God's word you will be amazed...once you get in it...you just can't get out! I sound crazy talking about these women because I feel like I know them! Kind of like we are about celebrities.
In ancient day parents named their children after they were a year old.  A name could tell you about the person before you even met them. The first woman we  studied was Tamar from Genesis.  Her name means "date palm" which is a highly valued tree that withstands tough climates.  Tamar was married to two wicked men and was given the short end of big deals!  Obviosly she was well named!
Rahab means "proud or arrogant"! This makes me laugh because I could totally see that in her! I felt bad for her when I studied her because she is totally stuck as being "Rahab the Harlot" and then to have a name that means sinful attitudes just stinks!  I was facilitating and made the comment that I hope Georgia Kelley doesn't get stuck with her name bearing the meaning of her! Georgia means "farmer"!  Isn't that awful? I named her Georgia after my grandmother, so I felt like I named her after the legacy my grandmother left.  It really bothered me that Georgia Kelley's name mean farmer.  My grandmother did grow up on a farm but Georgia Kelley is NOT a farmer.

The last few days I have been studying Ruth, which means "friend".  Naomi is who is really fascinating me! I am enthralled with the lessons God is teaching me through her story!  Her name meant "lovely" and after her boys all died she asked her old friends and family to call her  Mara, which means "bitter". LIke I said, the names in ancient day meant a lot to people. I was stuck on the fact that Georgia's first name meant something I don't like.  No offense...I love farms but, I don't want to be named after one!  Kelley means "war and bright headed". I like can handle the "bright headed" part but, once again...not a fan of the "war" part.  Some would say that I shouldn't care..but I do and guess what God has totally encouraged me! I am talking....he has once again made me proud of her name!  I was discussing this with my friend Kathy, my mentor, and she immediatly said, "that is a beautiful meaning".  She didn't have to say any more!  I got it!  What do farmers do? They plant and water seeds! They help take care of animals!  Could I ask for a better meaning?  Are you with me?  My biggest prayer for my children since they were born is that they are light to others!  What is better than showing Christ?  Sharing him...and helping others grow closer to him!  Kelley...war means strife....of course we are in a spiritual war!  I hate that! I hate that Satan as after my kids and daily works on how he can bring them down but,  following God's word is the best way to grow closer to him and "fight" against the attacks of the evil one!  This was HUGE for me! I am so excited about her name! I may just have it painted in her room! I pray Georgia Kelley lives up to her name! Oh God is good!
Harry's name means "leader"! Enough said!

Naomi's story has been such a revelation to me in more ways than I could have ever thought! Maybe I will discuss them when I decide to love blogging again!

Very interesting! God Has no preferences and this reminds me to make an effort to follow His example. So much irony.
